JAK-Systems is the operating name for John Kane. I am an IT professional with 16 years experience in large datacenter support for VAX/VMS, Alpha/VMS, and Windows NT, 2000 and 2003 servers running on a variaty of platforms, including IBM blade centers, supporting 1000 plus clients on both physical and virtual machines.
My experience from the Ontario Government and SHL Systemhouse exposed me to numerous Hardware and Software Technologies. In addition I have also managed personnel and the computer room environment while I was with SHL Systemhouse.
I have had exposure to project management as both a team member and a team lead. In a project group or team environment I focus on the task at hand and offer opinions to proposed solutions as well as take input from others.
I completed the CDI College course Network and Internet Security Specialist. I completed the course ahead of schedule with a average grade of 96% and was given the Award Of Excellence from the Faculty Of Technology, Brampton Campus.
I have an ability to understand and adapt quickly to any software or hardware product. This has allowed me to excel in both the corporate world as well as bring that knowledge to use in the small business or home environments.
Prior to school, I was putting my skills to use maintaining a server farm for the Ontario Government. The server farm consisted of a combination of Digital Alpha systems and Compaq NT servers. My responsibilities included insuring the operational readiness of the servers and performing administrative functions on the servers.
Previous to that I was the operations manager for SHL Systemhouse. In that role I had an entire data center that was my responsibility to maintain. The data center included various servers of both NT, Novel, and OpenVMS operating systems. The staff to support the systems and the end clients were also my responsibility.
Using the knowledge gained from each of these I have provided services to some small businesses and friends, providing custom solutions to achieve a desired result.
